RUMBLE FISH

I just finished reading “rumble fish” by S.E Hinton. This coming of age book is or
was very interesting to read. I think that the author did a really good job of showing
how the main character: Rusty-James matured. In the beginning of the book rusty
James was always getting into fights, his dad was always drunk, he had no mother,
and his brother was never around. Rusty James was always in trouble. He was always
alone. Except for his brother, whom he idolized.

Rusty James had one best friend. Steve. Rusty James could always rely on Steve to
keep him on track, or at least to stay in school. Steve was never the fighter. He would
always be there to support rusty James but never actually fought. Rusty James
started to lose everything he cared about after his breakup with his girlfriend, Patty.

Even though rusty James’ brother came back, he still felt as if he was alone. This
was because even though he now had company he felt as if he was being outshone.
After a while rusty James started to lose himself. He got kicked out of school, he
started drinking more, and once he even started to fight Steve for no reason. Rusty
James had to become more mature after a while because his brother got arrested,
and his father was in his own world. He started to see the world as it really was. He
became more aware of his actions. Even though it was to late because, he too got
arrested he did mature and went from a crazy to teenager to a responsible adult.
