RUMBLE FISH

I just finished reading “rumble fish” by S.E Hinton. This coming of age book is or
was very interesting to read. I think that the author did a really good job of showing
how the main character: Rusty-James matured. In the beginning of the book rusty
James was always getting into fights, his dad was always drunk, he had no mother,
and his brother was never around. Rusty James was always in trouble. He was always
alone. Except for his brother, whom he idolized.

Rusty James had one best friend. Steve. Rusty James could always rely on Steve to
keep him on track, or at least to stay in school. Steve was never the fighter. He would
always be there to support rusty James but never actually fought. Rusty James
started to lose everything he cared about after his breakup with his girlfriend, Patty.

Even though rusty James’ brother came back, he still felt as if he was alone. This
was because even though he now had company he felt as if he was being outshone.
After a while rusty James started to lose himself. He got kicked out of school, he
started drinking more, and once he even started to fight Steve for no reason. Rusty
James had to become more mature after a while because his brother got arrested,
and his father was in his own world. He started to see the world as it really was. He
became more aware of his actions. Even though it was to late because, he too got
arrested he did mature and went from a crazy to teenager to a responsible adult.

coming of age

My coming of age book is “that was then, this is now.” By S.E Hinton. Thisbook is about a boy named Bryon and his “brother” Mark.  In this book Bryon starts to realize that he and mark are completely different from each other. All these events happen as bryon starts to mature and sees things in a different perspective.
Bryon is a guy who likes to think things through. Mark is a guy who likes to live in the moment. When Bryon and mark’s friend, Charlie gets shot in front of their faces, Bryon starts to realize that mark doesn’t like to think….what if… now after Charlie dies, Bryon starts to see a change in mark. At first, Bryon thinks it’s because mark doesn’t like his new girlfriend. But as time passes Bryon realizes that this isn’t the case.
After a few months, Bryon finds out that mark has been selling drugs. In the moment Bryon calls the cops, and turns mark in for drug-selling. After testifying against him, marks last words to him before jail were “I hate you buddy.” This made Bryon realize that he would never forgive himself for turning in his best friend and brother to jail.
A lot of things changed Bryon, and made him more mature. He realized after Charlie’s death that you can’t take people for granted because “one second they are breathing, talking, thinking, and the next they’re gone.” he also realized that some people aren’t what you thought they were. This is how my character made decisions that made him more mature.

RESPONSE TO ARTICLE

In the article “Rescuing Animals -With Your Phone” by Zack Jones, it talked about a new way to help save animals. All you have to do is, download an app on your phone. I think its great that we have found a new and fast way, to help animals, but I also think its sad because we have to use technology. There is a good side to this and a bad one.

I think that this new way to help animals through an app, is cool. I think its great because, many people these days “cant live” without their phones. And if they have a way to help animals through their phone, then I think more people will become involved in the animal society. Its also great because as it says in the article “The animal might be dangerous to you, and you could cause injury without meaning to.”Because of these ideas I think the AnimalHelpNow App is fantastic.

In addition I also think that this app may not be so great. I say this because this app is just showing how far people have to go, (creating an app) in order to motivate others to try and help the animal society. Its sad because if this new app hadnt been created then everybody would’ve stayed the same. Or in other words caring very little about the animals. I think that if people want to really help animals then they should do it for real, and not with an app.

In all, the AnimalHelpNow app can work. Even though, it means having to use technology to help animals. Its great because: "The app is designed to work even when you don't have cell or Internet access." If this is what it takes to get people, to take action, Fine. Now will this app get you to help animals or will you just help once and then go back to your same routine?

plagiarism

In this students blog post, what he/she did wrong was that they plagiarized. They
simply copied and pasted off of a website. Instead of plagiarizing, the student could have
properly cited this website, or they could have paraphrased. If they wanted to cite this
website, they could’ve quoted the words. So for example “there is the night filled with
swirling clouds.”(Vincent van Gogh: starry night.)

There are many ways to avoid plagiarism. One way is to cite your sources. Include
where you got your information on. Don’t just copy and paste. Another way to avoid
plagiarism is to paraphrase. Reword the sentence(s) that you want to include in your
paragraph. Or don’t just copy and paste. If you don’t like jail don’t plagiarize ….. Thank
you have a wonderful life J

FAVORITE BLOG POSTS

MY TWO FAVORITE BLOG POSTS WERE GUADALUPE’S AND SOFIA’S. I LIKED GUADALUPE’S BECAUSE IT HAD A LOT OF THIOUGHT TO IT. I THINK THAT IT SHOWED THAT SHE WAS THOUGHTFUL OF THE THINGS THAT SHE PUT IN THE POST, BECAUSE IT GOT STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. I LIKED HOW IT DIDN’T CONFUSE YOU BY GIVING YOU SO MUCH DETAIL AND MAKING IT ALL INTO ONE PARAGRAPH. IN SOFIA’S BLOG I REALLY LIKED HOW HER BLOG WAS LONG, BUT NOT FULL OF OTHER RANDOM DETAILS THAT SHE COULD PUT INTO IT. THE POST WAS ACTUALLY FULL OF INFORMATION. I LEARNED A LOT IN THE POST. FOR AN EXAMPLE OF THIS IS WHAT I LEARNED ON PICASSO’S LIFE AS AN ARTIST. IT WAS VERY INFORMATIONAL. AND FULL OF DETAIL .
THE TWO THINGS THAT I REALLY LIKED ABOUT GUADALUPE’S BLOG, WAS HOW THE LENGTH OF IT WASN’T TOO LONG, OR TOO SHORT. IT GOT STRAIGHT TO THE POINT AND EXPLAINED THOUROGHLY WHAT SHE WANTED TO GET THROUGH TO THE AUDIENCE. ANOTHER THING THAT I LIKED ABOUT GUADALUPE’S POST WAS THE DETAIL THAT SHE GAVE IN HER POST. SHE DIDN’T GIVE TONS AND TONS OF DEATIL, SO AS TO JUMBLE UP (CONFUSE) HER READERS. SHE GAVE JUST THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF INFORMATION TO KEEP THE READER ENGAGAGED AND NOT BORED. WHAT I LIKED ABOUT SOFIA’S POST, WAS THAT SHE GAVE AN EXPLATION ON THE PERSON SHE WAS WRITING ABOUT, WHICH HAPPENED TO BE PICASSO. SHE GAVE ENOUGH INFORMATION ABOUT THIS PERSON SO THAT YOU KNEW WHAT SHE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN TO YOU. I ALSO LIKED HOW SOFIA INCORPARATED FACTUAL INFORMATION. YOU COULD TELL THAT THEY WERE FACTS AND NOT JUST HER OWN KNOWLEDGE. THIS IS WHY THESE WERE MY FAVORITE BLOG POSTS.
NOW AFTER READING THESE TWO BLOGS, I WILL TRY TO IMPROVE ON THE LENGTH OF MY BLOG POSTS. AND ALSO ON ALL THE DETAILS I GIVE AND IF I GIVE ANY DETAILS AT ALL.  I ALSO NOW KNOW THAT I SHOULD GIVE FACTUAL INFORMATION AND NOT JUST THE INFORMAION I KNOW, BECAUSE IT MIGHT NOT EVEN BE RIGHT. THIS IS WHAT I WILL DO NOW TO TRY AND IMPROVE MY BLOG POSTS THIS YEAR.

A Review on "Much to do about Nothing"

LAST WEEK ME AND MY CLASS WENT ON A TRIP TO SEE. THE PLAY “MUCH ADO

ABOUT NOTHING” I THOUGHT THAT THIS PLAY WAS VERY WELL PUT TOGETHER. I

THOUGHT THAT THE ACTORS REALLY STAYED IN CHARACTER. I LIKED HOW THE

ACTORS WOULDN’T LAUGH OUT LOUD DURING A SCENE EVEN IF THE AUDIENCE

 WOULD BURST OUT  LAUGHING.

LOOKING FOR ALASKA

I AM READING THE BOOK “LOOKING FOR ALASKA” I JUST FINISHED THIS BOOK
TODAY AND I THOUGHT THAT THE ENDING IS REALLY MEANINGFUL. THIS BOOK
WAS ABOUT THESE BOYS NAMED MILES OR “PUDGE”, CHIP OR “THE COLONEL” AND
ALSO TAKUMI.  MILES USED TO BE A BOY WITH NO FRIENDS AND A HOBBY OF
FINDING OUT PEOPLE’S LAST WORDS. CHIP WAS ALSO A LOSER ,SHORT,  ANNOYING
AND NO FRIENDS WHATSOEVER.  TAKUMI IS THIS COMPUTER WHIZ. HE’S ASIAN
AND FAIRLY SMART. THEN THERE IS A GIRL NAMED ALASKA. SHE IS A VERY PRETTY
GIRL. SHE’S SMART, SHE CAN GET ALL THE BOYS IN THE WORLD AND HAS THE
POWER TO CHANGE BOYS LIKE “PUDGE” AND “THE COLONEL” INTO GUYS THAT
GIRLS WOULD DROOL OVER. BUT DEEP DOWN INSIDE ALASKA HAS A SECRET. SHE
HAS PROBLEMS THAT SHE IS AFRAID TO REVEAL. SHE BLAMES HERSELF FOR THE
DEATH OF HER MOTHER, AND THINKS THAT SHE COULD HAVE SAVED HER BUT
DIDN’T.  EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS 8 YRS OLD.
IN THE BOOK ALASKA’S GOAL IS TO HELP PUDGE BECOME A CHICK MAGNET. SHE
STARTS BY LOOKING FOR GIRLS THAT ARE PRETTY, NOT HOT BECAUSE PUDGE
DOESN’T NEED THAT YET.  SOON AFTER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THE GUYS START
SEEING A CHANGE IN ALASKA. SHE STARTS TO DRINK IN EXCESSIVE, STARTS TO CARE
LESS ABOUT GETTING CAUGHT DRINKING. SHE STARTS SMOKING ONE PACK OF
CIGGARETTES A DAY. THE GUYS SEE THIS BUT ARE ALSO LOSING CONTROL OVER THE
SMOKING AND BEER. SO THEY DON’T DO SQUAT.
MUCH LATER ALASKA SUFFERS A CAR ACCIDENT AND DIES. WHILE THE BOYS TRY TO
INVESTIGATE WHAT COULD HAVE CAUSED ALASKAS DEATH , THEY FINALLY THINK
THAT IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH HER MOM. THEY BLAME THEMSELVES, BUT
IN THE END THEY FIGURE OU THAT SHE TOOK THAT DDECISION AND LET HER REST
IN PEACE.

RESPONSE ON PARIS

I think that Paris would be a good husband for Juliet, because he would give
her all of the things she could ever want. I still think that Paris could be a good
husband but I don’t think that there would be a very happy marriage between
the two of them. I think this because even though Paris may love Juliet, Juliet does
not love him back.( at least not now) maybe if Paris would take the time to “woo”
Juliet then maybe Juliet would start to like him.
I also think that Paris is being selfish, I think this because he told Capulet that
he wanted to marry Juliet but he never told Juliet to her face that he would like
her to marry him. so in all i think that paris is a gould person but still sort of bad

ROMEO AND JULIET

Dearest friend,
I have learned many things throughout the book Romeo and Juliet. It is a very interesting book. So far I have learned many things about the characters Sampson and Gregory.
For example I have learned that Sampson and Gregory both don’t/won’t be carry coals (to be humiliated) I’ve also learned that they don’t like the people they are working for.
One important thing that I have noticed so far is that Romeo is not happy at all. He isn’t happy because he loves a woman that does not love him back. He has very strong feelings toward this girl. His cousin Benvolio, is trying to make him feel better but, Romeo is just to upset to listen.
So far I don’t understand what the book is saying most of the time. It is all very confusing especially the way that the characters talk. So wish me luck.
                Your friend,
                 Jessica Anzurez

Starry Night By: Anne sexton

I think that this poem has lots of meaning behind it because it shows a lot
of emotion. What really liked about this sonnet is that it has a small quote at
the top heading. The quote says that he has a terrible need of religion. And
that after he goes out to paint the stars at night. I think that this quote or
excerpt has some meaning. And that you just have to be able to understand
what van gogh was trying to tell his brother in the letter.
In the poem there was little repetition and some rhyme. The repetition I
thought was really cool how the poet said “I want to die” at the end of the
first to paragraphs. These were my favorite two lines in the sonnet because
I thought that this line was the one line with more significance out of all of
them. I thought the author was trying to show how the person inside the
poem was feeling at the time.
I think that the poet was trying to express her feelings or what she
thought van gogh was feeling because she uses a lot of like death like
words. For example another line that was interesting was the one that said
“my life with no flag.” I thought that this line could have multiple meanings.
Like maybe she was trying to say that his life had no meaning, or that his life
was worthless. I also thought that maybe it meant that his life had no
boundaries or end.
In the end I thought that this was a very well composed sonnet, I thought
that it had lots of emotions and feelings.

final sonnet

The girl is friendly and really nice.

She is athletic and loves a good fight.

She loves all sports, her favorite involves ice.

She loves the color of the field, its icy white.

That’s right, her passion is hockey.

She’s not a sore loser, but does like winning.

And when she does win she never does get cocky.

Either way, through the game all you see is grinning.

On her free time she absolutely loves reading.

All genres are fine except for fiction.

She knows that fiction can be misleading.

So she reads poetry, it’s like her addiction.

Your average girl, who tends to go for a run

But still loves to have lots and lots of fun.

Reading response

Iam reading the book on the devils court it is a really good book so far, I think that this book shows alot about he ways some kids live . In this book Joe is always trying to live up to his fathers standards. Joe always must have straight As in all his classes in a way it's like peer pressure just with the difference that he is bringer pressured by his dad and not some bully in school. Joe tries to live up to his fathers expectations but it's hard for him because Joe is not the bookworm or geek type. All Joe wants to do is play basketball all the time. It's hard for Joe be quad he doesn't like to disspaion his father in any way.
Because of this Joe starts to play basket ball behind his parents back and soon gets caught he feels as if his parents are controlling his life . They wouldn't let him choose the high school he felt more comfarotble going to and they were always there choosing his friends for him. This is why when he is grounded for a week he really gets into a book his dad gave him.this book is about some guy who sold his soul to the devil. Joe gets curious because they both have the same last name and Joe wonders if hey might be related.
I think this book is a great example isle parents handling yur life i Also shows how pressure cand drive kids to do things they don't want to or feel like they have to do:)

reading response

cover of the book

I just finished reading the book Deadly Little Secrets by Laurie Faria stolarz this book was so good that I read it in 1 day. Basically its about a supposedly killer who goes around and kills people but it turns out that Ben which is the "killer" isn't really the killer he is being framed by the real person that is stalking different girls in the school. The end was really surprising because it was (of course) the person that you least expected it to be. I will not say who though

Throughout the book I felt like I was really experiencing what was going on in the book. I felt as if I was the girl that was being harassed and stalked all through the book. The author did a really good job capturing the readers attention and keeping them in the book. This book is full of suspense and keeps you guessing

In all I really recommend this book to everybody who likes books
that keep you interested in the book. This really is a fantastic and
amazing book.

2 best student blogs

my two favorite blogs are Sofia's and Guadalupe's. i really liked these two

blogs because they both had lots of detail. and they both showed emotion

, especially Guadalupe's. they were both good in length and they both showed how

they were trying to prove their point. in Guadalupe's blog post she was trying to

get the readers to see if animals can feel what humans feel. she added alot of

thought that also made the reader think about what she had written. in Sofia's

response she wrote in detail about her book . she had lots of good detail and

showed everything clearly. i enjoyed reading hers because even if it looks long

you flow right through it because it ts written very nicely, and fluently, this is why

these are my 2 best student blog posts.

book response

I  am reading the book "what happened to goodbye" by Sarah Dessen. even though I just

started reading the book I know that the main issue of the book is divorce. I think that in

this story it shows how one person deals with the fact that their parents are separating. people

in the world treat this issue differently than another person. simply because some people may

want to just face the problem and move on and others may want to ignore it like it never

happened.

In this book the main character McLean, has experienced divorce first-handed. her mother

dumped/left her father for a rich basketball player that McLean and her father idolized. McLean

took this hit pretty well. although later she would be made fun of in school and basically

anywhere people knew her.

After McLean discovers that her mother has been pregnent since way before the divorce she

starts to feel a bit of resentment toward her mom and decides that she wants to tour the world

with her father. A few months later her mother tries to contact her through chat to tell her some

news. McLean doesnt want to hear the news but does miss her mother so she accepts the

chat request and she learns that she now has baby brother twins. this is all that i have read so

far so i dont know much else............... next post will have more :)
